Episode Summary | A police helicopter is chasing a truck through the desert. The chase goes on until the truck crashes and on ground units arrest the man, Juan Ramirez. He was dumping trash in a natural reserve area, and Nick and Ray are on the scene. The trash consists of surgical waste, body parts and the dead body of a young teen that has obviously been operated on. Dr. Jekyll is back, but it's obviously not Juan. They surmise that Juan is his "Igor." Ray tests blood at the scene and finds that it's human and there are old and new drops. They determine that Juan has probably dumped there several times.
Catherine and Greg arrive at a hotel where a young woman's body is dead int he hallway. The victim was probably killed in a room and dragged out into the hall. Her purse is at the scene and they investigate her name, Karen Jones. She's a guest from Phoenix but wasn't on the hotel register. She's got a gun in her purse. Catherine and Nick question guests on the floor to see if anyone heard anything. Brass questions the bartender downstairs and says there was another woman with the dead blonde. They'd been down there the last few nights, but the previous night seemed to be arguing. Greg processes the body and finds white fibers in her nostrils, which is similar to the bedding and towels at the hotel. They tent the body to do a superglue fingerprint analysis.
Detective Cavalerie questions Juan and he claims that "el doctor" told him to dump the trash. Dr. Robbins and Ray evaluate the body. The boy was operated on because of a large cyst but the surgeon wasn't able to remove it because the boy had a condition that made him bleed. They determine that Dr. Jekyll was actually trying to help the boy, meaning that he's operating both inside and outside the norm "A true Jekyll and Hyde" says Dr. Robbins. Wendy locates the boy's father through blood matching, and that some of the body parts were not his. They also found prescription medicine from Mexico which they trace to a shop in town owned by a Jeffrey Hughes. They present the warrant and Hughes says he's an herbalist and denies doing any surgeries, but Ray is suspicious. His prints match the crime scene evidence and Hughes is taken away. Ray and Nick investigate the storeroom and theorize that the table would have been in the center of the room. The tile in the middle of the floor has been regrouted and there is evidence of blood being cleaned up.
Greg and Catherine review the casino footage. Karen was with her friend, as the bartender said. Then she was seen on an ATM cam trying to smooth talk an older looking rich man. She's seen in the hotel elevator getting off at the 19th floor at 3:30 am, looking distressed. The body is ready for processing and they discover a few prints. They follow Karen Johnson's debt card transactions to a hotel room she rented, which appears to be empty. Brass and Nick smell something and remove the top mattress to find the dead body of the brunette they were looking for. They also find Karen's luggage and a suitcase labeled "Jillian Rose", which must be the brunette. Dr. Robbins examines Jillian's body and she has several bruises received during a struggle. She was asphyxiation just like her friend. If the same person did it, Jillian was killed first.
Wendy analyzes the blood from the grout and it was definitely the boy's. There was also an unknown male, which Ray explains was his because he had to grind the grout which you can't do with your fingers. Wendy asks for his DNA sample to exclude him and he refuses. Nick arrives at the home of Mr. Hughes with a warrant. Ray questions Mr. Hughes about the boy. He explains he graduated pre-med at Harvard and then trained in Mexico when he fell in love with a girl there. He has been performing surgery and importing drugs. Mr. Hughes claims that the boy was the first one that had died, and that he doesn't recognize Dr. Jekyll's other victims.
Greg reviews the casino surveillance tapes with Catherine again and they see Jillian making out with a man in the elevator. It's the same man that Karen was talking to at the ATM. They get off on the 19th floor and then six minutes later she's going down the elevator texting. They realize they aren't hookers, as they had previously thought. Catherine finds Karen's phone and sees they are running a con. Karen got the pin number from the man and Jillian stole the credit card. The man, Donald Fiore, was staying just doors down from where Karen was found. He's checked out and they try to process the room even though it's been cleaned. Greg finds Karen's shoes in the vent and they are wet. He was trying to flush them. In the toilet they find evidence of the dress being flushed. They decide to search with a camera on the end of a snake to find the dress.
They track down Donald Fiore, the man from the surveillance video. He explains that he didn't report the incident because his wife is an heiress and she would divorce him if she knew he'd taken a woman back to his room. He says that Karen came looking for him and offered to give him the wallet back for money, pointing a gun at him. He keeps quoting statistics saying the probability of them solving the murder was low, so he dragged the body into the hallway. He doesn't seem to be concerned about the conviction, especially since he claims it was self defense. Greg finds some grey fibers on Karen's dress and takes them to Hodges. The fiber is from the box spring that was holding Jillian's body, meaning Karen was in the room after Jillian was dead or that Karen killed her. Catherine and Greg go back to the room to find out what killed Jillian. The notice the trash can liner has lipstick on the inside and dust it for prints. The prints on the bag are too big to be Karen's, so they figure that Karen just hid the body and tried to extort Donald. His prints came back as a match to the trash can liner. He tracked them down to get his wallet back. He claims it was a mathematical certainty that the woman would either report the incident so he had to kill her.
Nick and Ray review the evidence from the case, but unfortunately the suspect is not Dr. Jekyll. They do get him for drug trafficking and practicing medicine without a license. Ray decides to create a flyer in Spanish for his free clinic so that Mr. Hughes patients have somewhere to go.
