Episode Guide - CSIEpisode Summary

Replay to the season 10 finale of Haskell stabbing Ray Langston. The guards come rushing in and take Haskell down. Ray is rushed to the ER with the CSIs at his side. Langston sees Haskell in the gurney next time and Haskell get up and comes over to him. As Langston begins to seizes, he sees it's really Nick by his side, reassuring him he's going to be okay. Langston is rushed up to the OR for surgery.

The LVPD and some CSIs are in attendance at a funeral for one of their own, Officer Franklin Clark. Brass goes up to Nick and says while he knows Nick's heart is in the right place, the best thing for the family is for him to leave. Nick walks to his car while the funeral begins. Once in his vehicle, Nick listens to the eulogy and remembers sending Franklin in the back room of the restaurant with Dr. Jekyll where Clark was shot and killed.

Nick spots a florist van nearby with a bunch of roaches on/around it. He gets out to investigate and discovers a bomb is strapped to the bottom of the van. He looks inside and sees a larger bomb inside. Suddenly, the casket containing Clark's body explodes and chaos ensues at the funeral. Everyone rushes to their vehicles, but Nick draws his gun, firing off shots warning them there is another bomb. The bomb inside the florist van explodes as Nick is sent flying to the ground.

Back at the funeral, Ecklie is updating the Mayor on what happened. Three explosions have gone off. There are two fatalities, a dozen injured and three critically wounded. Catherine is checking on Nick, who is throwing up and having a hard time hearing. The paramedic lets Catherine know he will be okay, what he is suffering from is normal when hit by such a blast but it will wear off. As he is having trouble hearing, Nick yells to Catherine how he knew about the bomb. He tells her the cockroaches don't like daylight and he thinks they were attracted to the ticking of the bomb. Brass comes up and checks on Nick. "Nate Haskell did this. If he would've stayed in prison where he belonged, I wouldn't have lost two of my men," Brass says then walks away taking a phone call. "It's always easy to quarterback after the fact," Catherine yells to Brass. Vartann lets Catherine know the bomb squad cleared the area. Catherine wants all video taken during the funeral and after. She touches him on the shoulder as she walks off. Nick follows Catherine. "Ah Nicky why you flanking me? You've already been a hero, go to the hospital," Catherine tells him. Greg comes up and takes Nick's jacket, telling him it's evidence. "That was my best suit," Nick complains. "Have you seen your car?" Greg asks. Nick looks at his now torched SUV.

Brass visits Langston in the hospital to see how he's doing. Langston inquires about Nick and Brass replies, "He's lucky to be alive." Langston notices there have been four bomb dogs on his floor in five minutes and Brass tells him it's just a precaution. Brass points out the morphine button when he notices Langston is in pain but Langston tells him that morphine clouds his judgment. They discuss whether or not Haskell is behind the bombing and how he would have gotten outside help. Langston wants his laptop and cell phone and tells Brass not to forget his charger. As Brass starts to leave, Langston says, "When you talk to Haskell, you play your game, not his." As Brass is walking down the hall, the doctor says, "Man's got an amazing attitude for a guy who just lost a kidney." "Doe he know that?" Brass asks. "Yeah, fortunately god gave him two."

Brass walks into Haskell's room. "How's Ray?" Haskell asks. Brass tells him that Ray will make a full recovery. Haskell wants Ray to live a long long time, so every time Ray unzips his pants to take a leak, he'll think of Haskell. "Yeah, he'll always remember what a putz you are," Brass responds. Haskell tries to taunt Brass, then asks Brass to untie him so he can eat his lunch. Brass slowly slides the stand and lunch tray away from Haskell. Brass leaves the room and tells the officer standing guard to bring Haskell back to prison. Haskell stretches his tied hands to reach his food.

Nick is surveying the bomb scene when a new bomb tech walks up. She tells him he is lucky to be alive. He asks if she is Monohan, the new bomb tech. "Anyone crazy enough to wave their pistol at 100 armed cops, you can call me Kacey," Monohan tells him. Sara and Catherine go through the debris on the ground. they both find barbed wire chunks all over. Sara indicates the bomb was designed to cause a lot of injuries. "The good news is, it's left us a lot of evidence," Catherine says. Nick finds something in the ground and hands it to Kacey. She tells him it's a cell phone detonator.

Back at the CSI, Catherine updates Ecklie, Langston (via camera) and Brass on their findings. The first two bombs were low-explosives. The van bomb was a high-explosive - a kill bomb. The first bomb in the casket was meant to scare; the second bomb, on a tombstone was meant to send the cops in the direction of the third bomb, which was in the van. Langston says it wasn't Nate Haskell because he likes to kill one-on-one, slowly and inflict pain. They determine the bomber was someone who has a grudge against cops.

In the lab, Nick struggles to process evidence. Catherine observes from outside the lab, then walks in and orders him home. He tells her everyone is tired. "Everyone wasn't shot and then blown up," she tells him. Catherine tells Nick that she almost lost him, and Langston and she can't afford to lose the case. She wants Nick to follow procedure and talk to the department's shrink. Nick disagrees and feels it's waste of time. "You can't John Wayne this like everything else," she tells him. "After losing Warrick, I thought if I just worked hard enough, focused completely on the cases, that I wouldn't have to think about his death. There isn't enough work in the world. I realized that I couldn't do my job without talking to somebody," Catherine says. "I never knew that about you," a teary-eyed Nick says. "I'm good at hiding things, like you. Just ask yourself, if you got a call out tomorrow to the restaurant where you got shot and Officer Clark died, would you be there for your team? Would you want you backing you up right now? Make that call," she tells him and hands him the department shrinks card.

Sara walks into autopsy as David is processing Officers Morales and Coopers bodies. He tells her that both men had children. Sara walks over to Doc Robbins, who is processing Officer Clarks body again. "Makes you want to slug someone," Sara says. They discuss how hard it is for Clarks family to lose him once in the line of duty, then again like this. Robbins tells Sara he already spoke with the widow and let her know that Clark was already in a better place. As he looks in the body, he pulls out another piece of evidence, a SIM card, and feels Clark may have just helped them.

Monohan is going through the bomb debris. Greg walks in and she tells him she may have found the bombers signature. She tells him the bomber is meticulous, maybe even OCD. Sara brings in the SIM card for them to process. Greg plugs in the SIM card to see what they can find - they find the phone number and it traces back to a Thomas Rand. who is a military demolitions expert. Unfortunately, Rand was killed the previous month in Afghanistan.

Brass meets with Sally Rand, who is bitter about her husbands death. She has a four year old daughter at home and a son on the way. Brass asks what she did with her husbands cell phone. She tells him she gave most of his things way to charity. Brass informs her that her husbands cell phone was used to detonate a bomb. She tells him she gave the phone to a community center that was doing a drive and collecting cell phones for soldiers.

Dr. Huxbee is holding a small rally at the community center. The LVPD and CSI's show up outside and get ready to storm the place. A young boy, Jason McCann, stands up to defend a man who helped raise him, Ralph. "Ralph was no criminal. He's a decent man. He took my brother and I when we had no one," Jason says. The police come in and one man stands up and tells the police their authority isn't recognized there. Dr. Huxbee tells the crowd to not resist but the man swings at the officer anyway. A small fights ensues, a woman goes after Sara, who slugs the woman and knocks her to the ground.

Sara goes to visit Langston, her right hand is bandaged. "Just say no huh?" she says. "I hear you pack a mean right hook?" Langston jokes. "Like Gandhi I turn the other cheek. Just wasn't mine," she replies. Langston has been analyzing the devices and thinks the bomber was close-by. As he was reviewing the video from the funeral, there was a remote controlled airplane in the air. It was used to set off the three bombs. The bomber couldn't have been more than a half-mile from the funeral.

Catherine and Nick are swabbing and processing the small crowd from the community center. Huxbee mouths off to Catherine and she tells him to shut up. Brass is arguing with Ecklie about keeping the community center group while they find evidence tying them to the bombing. Ecklie isn't happy at first because the initial search of the community center turned up nothing, but gives in and allows Brass to hold them for 24 hours only.

Greg is back at the cemetery going over the crime scene. He is chatting with Langston over the phone but finds no plane on the ground. He thinks the bomber took it, but then looks up and sees the plane in the tree branch above his head. He brings the plane back to the lab and processes it, finding a fingerprint on the side.

Nick walks into the lab and Monohan shows him a trick with the plane. Nick had inquired about the clicking of the detonator and she shows him it's because the bomber was using a radio frequency from the remote controlled plane to communicate with the van bomb.

Brass walks into the office, asking for someone to give him some good news. He removes his sunglasses, revealing his black eye. "That shiner will be gone in about a week," Nick laughs. Nick gives Brass an update on the plane and fingerprint. The fingerprint belongs to an Alex McCann and Catherine looks down the list and realizes they have a Jason McCann in custody. The owner of the hobby shop where the plane was bought says that Jason McCann fits the description. Brass wants to talk to Jason but Catherine doesn't think it's a good idea. "Oh are you going to tell me how to do my job again? We all know how well that turned out," Brass tells her. The two exchange nasty comments until Nick breaks it up and offers to talk to Jason. "What are you going to do, give the kid a lollipop?" Brass asks. Nick feels it's the least he can do for Officer Clark.

In the interview room, Nick questions a hostile Jason McCann. "Where's your gun, your vest, your badge? You're off work or something?" Jason says to Nick. Nick explains where those items are (no need for a vest when he's not in the field; he's not a cop, so no need for a badge and guns aren't allowed in interrogation). "You still represent the authority, everything I hate. It's probably like you hate me," Jason replies. Nick says how he hated going to the funeral for Clark and he was asked to leave. Jason doesn't like cops or men in authority. Nick wants to know where his brother Alex is. Jason tells him that when the cops arrested Ralph and treated him like a low-life, Alex snapped and waged war on the entire LVPD. Jason finally tells Nick where he can find his brother but as Nick is running out the door, Jason tells him to hurry, what's coming will make the funeral bombing look like fireworks.

Nick and Monohan check out the house Alex is supposed to be at. Nick goes to pick the lock, but Kacey talks him out of it so he doesn't 'blow them both up.' Kacey checks under the door and finds a tripwire but doesn't see power to the wire. Nick opens the door and they both go inside, guns drawn. Monohan updates Langston via the phone on what they find. They find nine empty bomb cases and ice, as well as TATP. They realize Alex ran out of supplies and went 'shopping' for hydrochloric acid. they track him down to a pool supply store. Rather than giving up, Alex pulls a gun and all of the cops fire on him. Nick breathes heavily and reloads his weapon, but Catherine stops him and calms him down.

Catherine opens up Alex's car and finds out that the intended target was the LVPD building. Vartann tells her that she just saved a lot of cops lives and the next time she or Brass beat herself up about it, she should remember that.

"Well the bombers dead, that's one less whack job running lose in the world. I call that a good days work," Brass tells Ecklie. Brass says he let all of the community center crowd go except for Jason McCann as he had prior knowledge.

Langston awakens to find Doc Robbins in his room. Robbins brought him a gift, a walking stick. "When I lost my legs, I had to let go of some dreams. I was never going to be Fred Astaire, lost a little off my jump shot but I still dance with my wife, shoot hoops once a week," Robbins says. "And I'm never going to be a kidney donor," Langston replies. "Ray, no matter how much we think we can control in life, there is always going to be this much we have no control over. When you accept that, you can move on," Robbins says. the two men shake hands, then Robbins reaches in and hugs Langston.

At his desk, Nick looks at the card for the department shrink. He laughs as he looks at a dead baby pig in a jar, then picks up the phone and makes the call.

Catherine walks into the locker room and sees Sara sitting there. Sara is too tired to go home. Catherine asks why but she is paged before Sara can answer. Catherine tells Sara to go home, she'll take the call with Greg.

Catherine and Greg show up at the crime scene. They find a Caucasian male between 30 and 50 years old, someone called it in 20 minutes prior. Catherine tells Vartann he looks tired and needs sleep. She sends Greg and Vartann to follow the blood trail and she'll take the body. "Every so often a trash run, it's kind of refreshing," David says as he comes up to examine the body. "That's the spirit David," Catherine replies. Greg and Vartann find a tend and their primary area where the man was killed. Catherine wonders why the man was killed and dragged into an empty room.

Vartann's battery flashlight is dead. He gets a replacement battery from Greg but drops it before he gets it into his flashlight. As it rolls away from him, Catherine examines the body and notices a mouse trap and trip wire below the body. She yells out for Vartann and Greg not to touch anything. Greg grabs Vartann and pulls him away as the battery hits the tent and a bomb goes off. Catherine comes in to make sure they are okay and says, "It isn't over."

Back in the jail cell, Jason McCann looks up and smiles.
